How It Started

There’s a popular Akan proverb that says, “Aboa bi beka wo a, ɔfiri wo ntoma mu”—meaning, harm often comes from those closest to you. But in the same way, help, comfort, and healing also come from those nearest to you.

As a nurse practicing in Ghana, I’ve witnessed, time and time again, how patients are left feeling helpless in their most vulnerable moments—not because their families don’t care, but because they lack the medical knowledge, support, and expert guidance needed to properly care for a loved one. Even as healthcare staff, we do our best within hospital walls, but many setbacks happen once the patient returns home—missteps, missed signs, or the absence of someone who truly understands what to do next.

That’s why I founded The Caretakers, a dedicated team of nurses and other healthcare professionals who don’t just show up, but become like family in your most difficult or delicate seasons.
